I thought, this month, we could look at the big ‘New Year Resolution’ to get fit. It’s always a biggie and my classes are usually packed out through January with people who want to make a change. By February they’re mostly gone and we are back to normal. Why? Two main reasons;
- Will power (Of course) we all start off with the best of intentions-determined to shake things up and exercise, go on a diet and live more healthily.
- Time. Life is BUSY, between the children, work and everything extra, the first thing that slips is usually the diet and exercise plan (‘I’ll do an extra session in the week to make up for it’)
So what can we do to help ourselves?
Well, the first trick is to set yourself realistic goals. If you decide you’re going to run a marathon by the summer, or lose 4 stones (I’m not saying it isn’t possible) in six months then it can become overwhelming. My best advice is to make small changes for a bigger picture, for example arrange to walk with a friend or if you want to go to an organised class, make a date with someone you feel comfortable with to go together, that way you can encourage each other. Remember to allow yourself to be a beginner, nobody starts off great. The same goes for eating more healthily, making small changes can really help, dropping sugary drinks along can be of huge benefit. Allow yourself a treat every day, but in moderation, and trying to eat clean food (By that I mean unprocessed) will help you to feel so much better and have more energy.
Lots of little changes add up to a big one!
